Have you ever heard of “Kawai Tsugite”?
The main feature of this joint is that it can be used to connect wood from three directions. It can be connected horizontally, at right angles, and vertically.
This joint was invented by Professor Naoto Kawai when he was a student, and has only been around for about 30 years. Naturally, it is not among the traditional Japanese joints. But it is very interesting!
I found an explanation in this YouTube video and I’ll share it with you. ⇒https://youtu.be/Qv0VEN105nI
Why don’t you try to create “Kawai Tsugite”?
I’ve never made one of these and would love to give it a shot!(Note: All the joinery in the photo is not my work. Please use them as reference.)
We are creating online learning materials where you can learn about Japanese carpentry in English through the actual construction of the building!
It will be on sale at the kickstarter price from November 14th to December 6th, 2021, so be sure to check it out!
