An Ultimate 3-Day Journey for Those Who Live and Breathe Woodworking.

Woodworking begins with the mastery of the tool and a deep understanding of the timber. Held in New York and San Francisco, this intensive workshop is designed to immerse you in the essence of “Precision” through the use of traditional Japanese hand tools.

Led by Takami Kawai, a Kyoto-based master craftsman dedicated to sharing the heritage of Japanese woodworking with the world, this experience goes beyond mere technical instruction. It is an awakening of the senses—training your fingertips to detect a 0.1mm variance and teaching you to converse with the wood itself.

【 The Core of the Workshop 】

Within the focused span of three days, you will embody the process of unlocking the full potential of hand tools.

• Sharpening the Soul: Mastering the setup and sharpening of Nomi (chisels) and Kanna (planes). When the edge reaches a mirror finish, the wood reveals a completely different character.

• Defining the Standard: Creating perfectly flat and square surfaces using only a hand plane. Here, you build the foundation for all true precision.

• Carving the Logic: From Sumitsuke (layout) to the final creation of joinery. Experience the wonder of joints that draw together as if guided by magnets.

“Carry the Discipline Home”

The professional sharpening stone you use and refine with your own hands during the workshop is yours to keep. It serves as a lifelong partner, ensuring you can replicate this high standard of precision in your own studio.
