The material for the Kokera-buki is thin and small one by one, so it is suitable not only for gabled roofs like other shingle roofs, but also for more complicated roofs with many curves such as hipped roofs.
The material used is cypress, sugi, sawara, and other lumber that is easy to scrape and resistant to water. Bamboo nails are used to secure the Kokera-buki.
