Do you know grilled cedar boards used for the walls and outer walls of Japanese wooden houses?
Combine 3 boards to make a triangular prism, stuff it with wood shavings and newspaper, and ignite it. After confirming that the fire is completely on, stand it up. Then, the inside of the triangular prism burns vigorously. The pillars of fire rise high and the sound is amazing! It’s powerfull. After baking for about 5 minutes, open the triangular prism and sprinkle water on it to extinguish and cool it. This is completed.
By slightly charring the surface of cedar wood without combusting the whole plank, the wood becomes water-proof through the carbonisation and is thus more durable.
It’s also very nice to look at.

We are creating online learning materials where you can learn about Japanese carpentry in English through the actual construction of the building!
It will be on sale at the kickstarter price from November 14th to December 6th, 2021, so be sure to check it out!
