The beams being exposed. After taking down the ceilings to expose the beams, we realized some parts were worn and needed some repair works done.
The parts that required work was cleaned and a new piece of wood was made to fill it up. This kind of work is harder than it seems as the new piece has to fit in with the existing one. After it has been painted over, hopefully it will be hard to distinguish between the new and old.
A counter table made from Japanese cedar. The top is coated with wax.
seal-able holes were made under the counter table. The holes allow air to flow in, providing ventilation. During the winter, the holes can be sealed.
The restroom walls made from reclaimed, varying shaped planks. The planks were taken from under the tatami flooring when we were scavenging a retired house.
