Strong against earthquake reason one: Ishiba-tate The foundation is done the traditional way. Placing the posts directly on top of stones. The structure is not tied down to the earth. This helps avoid the energy from the earthquake transfering directly in to the structure, unlike the modern method of having strong foundation and strong structure to “resist” the earquake. It is said that during strong earthquakes, alot of houses got away with only the house moving a little from the stone while houses attached to the ground suffered terrrible damage.
