2026 Real Renovation Project — Daikakuji, Kyoto!

Join us near Daikakuji Temple for a hands-on, structural renovation of a historic Japanese house.
This is the ultimate opportunity to apply the skills you mastered in the Foundation Course, directly on site, side by side with the Master and fellow craftsmen.

From Classroom Precision to Real Architecture

The knowledge of tool tuning and techniques you gained in the one-month woodworking class will become living architecture on this site.
This is not a temporary practice space. You will help revive a house where people will actually live, taking on the responsibility of a true builder. This experience will elevate your craftsmanship into the realm of the Master.

🔨 Challenging Your Craftsmanship with the Master’s Guidance

You don’t need to worry about being “good enough.” The Master, TAKAMI, will provide meticulous, step-by-step guidance on theory and execution.
However, this project is designed as a true test of your skills. Dealing with the warp, distortion, and structural stress of aged timber requires problem-solving and adaptive techniques that go beyond classroom theory. You will refine your ability to make critical on-site decisions, a hallmark of a professional craftsman.

🎓 Measurable Results: Skills, Proof, and Portfolio Value

Touching a historic building, understanding its structure, and breathing new life into it—here lies the true essence of architecture that you cannot experience in a classroom.
Structural Mastery: Practice essential repair techniques like replacing load-bearing beams and posts, proving your capability in structural carpentry.
Advanced Joinery: Execute complex, high-strength joints such as Oikake-Ōsen-tsugi (Rabbeted Scarf Joint with a key) and precisely rebuild the traditional Nuki structure (Through-Tenon system).
Portfolio Credibility: Your participation in this Minka Restoration Project will become the most valuable asset in your professional portfolio, demonstrating your expertise in traditional structural repair.
